XpenseDiary is an AI-powered personal expense tracking application that works entirely within WhatsApp. Users send natural-language text messages, voice notes, or receipt photos to a WhatsApp bot, which uses Google Gemini AI to automatically categorize expenses, track budgets, and provide financial summaries — all without downloading a separate app.
Who built XpenseDiary?
XpenseDiary was built by an independent developer as an open-source project to solve a real problem: existing expense trackers are either too complicated, too invasive (requiring bank access), or don't fit how Indians actually communicate and transact.
What technology powers XpenseDiary?
XpenseDiary is built with Laravel 11 (PHP backend), Google Gemini AI (gemini-2.5-flash-lite for categorization and OCR), Meta WhatsApp Cloud API (for messaging), and MySQL (for data storage). The web dashboard is rendered with server-side Blade templates and vanilla CSS.
